The Mayatat Shrine in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom presents a unique challenge centered around moving sand and Zonai technology. Titled A Fixed Device, this shrine requires players to construct custom sleds and sand vehicles to cross hazardous terrain. Mastering these mechanics allows Link to navigate shifting sands smoothly and claim the Light of Blessing at the end.
Locating the Mayatat Shrine
The Mayatat Shrine is conveniently located near the Kara Kara Bazaar in the Gerudo Desert region. Its accessible placement makes it an essential fast-travel point for players exploring the southwestern area of Hyrule. Before entering, ensure you have appropriate heat-resistant gear or meals to handle the desert temperatures.
Solving the First Sled Puzzle
Upon entering the shrine, you will observe a slope with quicksand flowing downward towards you. To ascend, use Ultrahand to place a Zonai Sled onto the moving sand track. Step onto the sled and use Recall on it to ride the platform safely up the sliding hill.
Navigating the Second Quicksand Challenge
The next chamber features a much wider sea of sand that flows sideways across the room. Nearby, you will find two Zonai Sleds, a Steering Stick, and a Fan available for assembly. Connect the Fan to the rear of a Sled and attach the Steering Stick to the top to create a controllable sand vehicle.
Reaching the Hidden Treasure Chest
Before heading directly to the altar, turn your vehicle toward the left platform where a bonus treasure chest rests. Carefully drive across the flowing sand current and disembark onto the ledge to claim your extra reward. Once collected, return to your vehicle and steer toward the final goal platform.
Completing the Shrine Altar
Drive your customized vehicle across the main sand channel until you safely touch down near the exit structure. Ascend the stairs to reach the green glowing circle and activate the shrine terminal. You will be rewarded with a Light of Blessing, restoring Link's strength and completing the trial.
